Do you have daydreams of a life you’d love? As children we’d dream our dreams and even spend time pretending that we had superpowers. You’ve seen the pictures of children with capes on and pretending to fly with their arms outstretched and ready to take off. What we dream, what we imagine being is a powerful part of developing in real life the ability to live your vision. When we stop and imagine our dreams, we begin to take on new perspectives and align our doing to the dream based on how clearly we see and think like ourselves in the dream! Have you ever been in a store with too many choices? Statistics tell us when people are given more than 1-3 choices they often choose nothing! Can you imagine letting the number of good choices overwhelm you so much that you do choose none of the wonderful choices in front of you? Can you imagine? Life has so many many wonderful choices before you, don’t let the number of opportunities get in the way of you focusing your dreams and enacting the one that you most desire!
That’s exactly what many individuals do that would be amazing leaders in sales, in education, in medicine, art, personnel, or a hundred other choices. They continue to look at this or that, without a time to truly explore their dreams, commitment, or focus to enact living them. Do you know what the difference is between a proven leader and a follower? A leader dreams the dream, see and continues to see the vision, researches and risks learning new ways while releasing old thinking. They attempt to do new things, they fail, they reset their goal and get up and go again. Many times in my career I’ve had to pause to refocus my dream. Have you ever done that? Maybe your dream required changing your schedule, your skill level, your friendships, or your personal schedule. That’s part of what leadership is about, focusing your time, focusing your intentions and focusing your outcomes. How many of us do the familiar? How many times do we end up hanging around the comfort of those who tell us “that’s okay, no one really manages that level of growth or success”…as they continue to not reach their dreams or visions either.
Who do you dream your dreams with? Is your crowd moving forward in life? Are they excuse makers or excellence creators? What are their dreams? What are your dreams? Who are you seeking that has the skills and experience you are developing in your life? When are you stretching your abilities? Like an athlete, leaders must work out. Their minds, their bodies, and their goals must have daily exercise to strengthen their spirits, their skills and their relationships. It’s not easy to be a leader, but it surely has its rewards as you gain confidence stepping past fear into focused success.
Let me let you in on a little secret….
None of us come into this world knowing how to achieve our dreams, but those who pause and take time to develop their dreams, to simply take time to “see” themselves in their dreams, “see” themselves in their vision of a life their dreams will take them to, will set a force in motion. Once that focus is crystal clear, the next right steps, whether it be learning, taking action steps to gain experience, or seeking information on what that next activity looks like, sounds like, feels like, and what skills are required to accomplish it…well, that’s the dna of moving forward in your life. It may require you to rethink how you think about thing, to let go of activities that are not fulfilling your life purpose or mission. It could be tht you need to really analyze how much time you’re spending where and what you’re doing with that time. Don’t forget that your time is a precious commodity, are you willing to focus focus focus how you spend your time. It’s important! You need time for your relationships at home, time to take care of your health, time to do the work of your business (boy is that important!) and time to laugh, play, and NOT do your business. When we take time daily to step back from our work, step into a more intentional calendar and schedule that has real intention and outcomes planned, you’re well on your way to building your dreams to come true!
