Do You Give It All You’ve Got?

June 25, by Barbara Sunden

At a recent family gathering I was having such fun chatting with a dear relative, whom I had not seen for a number of years. We chatted our way down memory lane laughing and kidding each other as we remembered the good and not so good times of the past.

It was also fun to catch up and share what was now happening in our lives.  I listened to his update, which was filled with wonderful stories of his children and grandkids; however, when it was my turn to share he interrupted me and said “you have always had it easy!”….

I WAS FLABBERGASTED…always had it easy!!!! Who was this man referring to?

Isn’t it interesting the perception people have? Shortly after that conversation, I realized that when you do something well, to others it may appear easy. However, what’s often missed is the understanding that in life there are choices.

GIVE UP!                  GIVE IN!                   GIVE IT ALL YOU GOT!

I decided early on in my life not to be a quitter….Not to give in but rather to go the extra mile and give it all I had. Was that easy? Not all the time but it was the key to reaching successful OUTCOMES. By never giving up you look credible and you are believable.

It is sad but true that most often when people give up they are usually a breath away from their break-through or so very close to their turning point.

When people ‘give in’ it is usually based on the emotion of frustration and as the saying goes …if you are going to quit …quit when you are at the top! Of course we know when you are flying high and feeling successful the furthest thing from your mind is to quit…. so you never give up!

How Do You Give It All You’ve Got?

  1. Always remember why you started…keep your eye on the benefits.
  2. Do the “and then some”… keep moving – take just one more step, make one more call or one more sale. Go the extra mile.
  3. Find a way or make one. Zig Ziglar was known to give out round plastic shaped coin-like pieces, which he called “ROUND TUITS.  He explained it was a reminder to get around to do it.
  1. Be willing to go under, around, over or through the obstacle even when it looks like a mountain… there is always a way to reach a goal. Have positive expectation.
  1. Be in agreement that quitting is NON-NEGOTIABLE!

I CHOOSE TO LIVE BY CHOICE NOT BY CHANCE,

TO BE MOTIVATED NOT MANIPULATED,

TO BE USEFUL NOT USED,

TO MAKE CHANGES NOT EXCUSES,

TO EXCEL NOT COMPETE.

TO CHOOSE SELF-ESTEEM NOT SELF-PITY.

I CHOOSE TO LISTEN TO MY INNER VOICE,

NOT TO LISTEN TO THE RANDOM OPINIONS OF OTHERS.

I CHOOSE TO GIVE IT ALL I’VE GOT! HOW ABOUT YOU?

It is strange in life how things happen for a reason. This morning as I woke up, I asked myself that question “what should I do”, keep going or quitting? And then your email just came around to remind me that quitting was not an option and that I should continue doing that extra mile today. The scary thought was “what if I was just a breath away of reaching my goals”, so I can’t let go. Thank you for putting back that belief in my thoughts.

      Michele,
I truly believe what we decide to believe we can do, we CAN do! Keep your goals in your mind, see yourself in those goals making it happen. You will get there. ~ Barbara
