Leaders are Change Agents

July 21, by Barbara Sunden

A mom calls out to her son “Harry! Wake up! You’ll be late for school.”  The son replies, “Mom I don’t want to go to school! The teachers and students hate me! Give me one reason I should go!”

The mom says back, “You should go because you are the principal!”

This is an old joke, one that goes beyond just being humorous.  Have you ever had a time that you did not want to show up?  Show up for a meeting or a training event because you felt there might only be a few who would attend or that those who attended were really not interested in what you had to say? But like Harry you should go because you are the leader.   Often we wait for the motivation to begin or to take the next step when in reality ACTION PRECEDES ENTHUSIASM.  Action is always first then feelings follow.

I have found that as a leader when you sense things are off… Weak response to your Leadership…

  • Morale is low
  • Momentum is naught
  • Attendance for your events is off
  • Communication is bad

….. you need to Take ACTION! Change is necessary for growth. Something has to change and the change needs to begin with you.

REGISTRATION OPEN

Are you excited about your vision for the future? Are you willing to see things through new eyes?         It may be time to Re-Invent yourself – Time to Get away from ‘SAME OLD Routines — TIME to be the CHANGE AGENT!!!’

  • Dare to Embrace a BOLD Vision and articulate it. When people understand your vision they’re willing to support it – to BUY-IN to your idea.
  • Think Bigger and Dare to do things Differently. Be creative – lead by design.
  • Get people involved. – Have a call to Action – People support that which they help to create.

Whether you are creating a newsletter or conducting a meeting there are 4 Essential Components that must be addressed.

  1. Inspiration – Share Success stories.
  2. Education – Share Ideas and training for skill development.
  3. Recognition – Validating people’s efforts and accomplishments.
  4. Appreciation – Show sincere gratitude                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Dare to see things differently!

“You see things; and you say “Why?” But I dream things that never were; and I say “Why not?”                                             – George Bernard Shaw

Why not shake it up? Why not take action to change it up?  What is your WHY?

Why NOT… – by Jim Rohn

See …how much you can earn?

~how much you can learn.

~ how many skills you can develop.

~ what influence you can have.

~ Why NOT Discover the person you become?       Why not Now?
