I have noticed that many Successful Leaders seem to develop Eagle Qualities. Like an Eagle;
- They Soar to Amazing Heights
- Usually Fly Solo
- Are Always Seeking Higher Ground.
Their higher ground may be high up in a tree or on a ledge at the top of a cliff. Ross Perot said, “Eagles don’t flock, you find them one at a time.”
How true this statement appears to be, leaders are often on their own away from the team and usually not part of a crowd. So what keeps a leader motivated and recharged?
I’d say, Leaders know where to find their Higher Ground. They know what is needed to emotionally recharge their batteries.
Have you ever thought of what is your higher ground?
There are a few things that represent my Higher Ground:
- My higher ground is plugging into the ideas of successful leadership … It is a way to ensure I continue to grow by learning.
- I look for community … a place where Elite Leaders gather. To me this is usually at a conference or training event.
- My top choice for a HIGHER GROUND EXPERIENCE is to attend an event, especially a retreat. When I look back over my career as a Leader I realize a good amount of my success can be attributed to Retreat Events that I hosted for my team.
It was an opportunity for team and employees to:
- Learn how to get the results they dreamed of.
- To break-though the block that held them back from reaching their goals.
- It offered them an opportunity to learn how to achieve the results they desired.
These retreat experiences were truly an opportunity to reach Higher Ground and I know these events prepared me to Soar to even greater heights. What is your higher ground? What are you willing to do to put yourself on the HIGHER GROUND of your career, your life?
I share the lyrics to the song Higher Ground by Jonathan Oatman, Jr.
I’m pressing on the upward way
New heights I’m gaining every day
Still praying as I onward bound
“Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.”
Lord, lift me up and let me stand
By faith on heaven’s table land
A higher plane than I have found
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.
My heart has no desire to stay
Where doubts arise and fears dismay
Tho’ some may dwell where these abound
My prayer, my aim is higher ground.
For faith has caught the joyful sound
The song of saints on higher ground.
I want to scale the utmost height
And catch a gleam of glory bright
But still I’ll pray till heaven I’ve found
“Lord, lead me on to higher ground.”
Every year I gather women from all walks of life, work, and companies for an elite weekend retreat. This year’s retreat is to be held in the Poconos in September. You see, leadership is not a brand, or a position or a company, it’s the heart of individuals learning to use their gifts to encourage the gifts in others. This year’s retreat is my most exciting one, I am truly inviting individuals who are seeking to come along side other eagles to learn, to share, to encourage one another and to develop their leadership skills to a whole new level. Will you be one of the eagles gathering with us? Registration deadlines are nearing, our final early bird discount ends the 16th. Join us! If three or more of your team, employees, or cohorts register together, you’ll receive a by-invitation-only Coffee with me!
