It was in the early days of my career that I was given a book, AS A MAN THINKETH by James Allen. It was a tiny book presented at the conclusion of a training event and at that time little did I know how it would impact my life.
Reading this book led me to the awareness that our thoughts have power. It was the beginning of a journey of ‘noticing what I was thinking’. I became a student of positive thinking and began focusing my thoughts on the outcomes I desired.
The vision that you glorify in your mind, the Ideal that you enthrone in your heart – this you will build your life, by this you will become. – James Allen
Today Donald Trump sums it up by saying, “I like thinking big. If you’re going to be thinking anything, you might as well think big.” – Donald Trump
“You are today what your thoughts have brought you; you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you.”- James Allen
Over the years this focused way of thinking has served me well and I can best explain it by sharing one simple statement. Live in your Vision not your Circumstances!!!!
This Powerful Statement offers a positive direction for creating and living a successful life. ‘Live in your Vision’ is where you identify your dreams and your hearts desires. No matter what your current circumstances may be; the focus of your thinking needs to be directed on an image of your desired results.
“People who consider themselves victims of their circumstances will always remain victims unless they develop a greater vision for their lives.” – Stedman Graham
For most of my life I have taken this Visionary approach focusing on creating the life I wanted to live.
- I watched my words…I used positive affirmations and declared the outcome as if it already was a reality.
- I had pictures of things I wanted to have and to do and I looked at them many times throughout the day.
- I had high expectations that what I focused on would become my reality. I did not entertain “What If…” thoughts.
Please do not misinterpret my message; this is not wishful thinking! I was not sitting by just hoping great things would come my way, I was taking action but always with positive expectancy.
“If you are serious about your goals, drop the conditions. Go directly to your goal. Be your goal! Conditions often disguise strategies for escaping accountability. Why not take charge and create the experience you are looking for? – Eric Allenbaugh
Living in your Vision not your Circumstances is key for successful outcomes….. For example, at the time that I decided I would become the highest paid person in the company that I was working with, I was only receiving small monthly commissions. However, that circumstance did not enter my mind. Instead, I focused on seeing my name at the top of the list of high commissions. Each month I took a black marker and wrote BARBARA SUNDEN on the top of the list of all the names of the people with the top commissions. I did this religiously every month and watched as my commissions grew and finally my name did appear in print at the top of the list of highest commissions! What changed was my thinking which gave me the confidence to make better business decisions.
So many times in my life I have had a Vision that was contrary to my Circumstances…. As a new leader I only ever had a small team but I had a vision to be a Leader of Leaders. A TOP leader!!! When I looked at my small group of team members I did not see a few, I held the vision of this team expanding into 1000s of leaders.
What is your vision? What words are you letting define your outcomes? Are you living in your Vision?
“All of the great achievers of the past have been visionary figures; they were men and women who projected into the future. They thought of what could be, rather than what already was and they moved themselves into action to bring things into fruition.” – Bob Proctor
Barbara-envisioning you taking a black marker to write your name at the top of the list inspires me. I can see you doing that. Now the task at hand is seeing me do that and be that. While our goals may not be the same, the vision is clear! “What changed is my thinking which gave me confidence to make better business decisions.” Thank you for sharing your insights. BB
