It seems today more and more people are joining Direct Sales Companies. Some are looking to make a little extra cash and others are looking to be their own boss and the opportunity to build a very profitable organization. I love the Direct Sales Industry for all that it offers in rewards; especially the opportunity to develop a financially successful business.
Often I am asked, “What is the key to success in Direct Sales?” and the answer boils down to one word PERSISTENCE! As Winston Churchill said “Never, Never, Never Give Up!” or the old adage …. “Try until you can’t try anymore and then try again”.
Yes, that is the definition of Persistence!! Keep on Keeping On! We never know around what corner success is going to show up so we have to be so committed to keep going.
The reality is that most successful people fail forward to success.
- The greatest quarterbacks complete only 6 out of every 10 passes.
- Major league players make it to first base only 25% of the time – and that includes walks.
- The best basket ball players make only about 50% of their shots.
- A successful actor is turned down 20 out of 30 times after auditioning for roles in TV commercials.
The key to success especially in Direct Sales is to know that PERSISTENCE PAYS… 80% of all sales are made AFTER THE 5TH CALL. Yes! After the 5th Call and yet sales people often give up too soon.
- 48% of sales people give up after the 1st
- 25% give up after the 2nd
- 12% make 3 calls – and then STOP!
- 5% quit after the 4th
- 10% keep on calling after the 4th call and this persistent 10% get 80% of all the sales.
A bit of advice is to never look back on past failures. Think of them as learning experiences and develop an ‘I CAN DO IT’ Attitude. Attitude is 90% of your performance every day.
Make sure you have a supportive ‘circle of influence’. Drop the Firefighters in your life that throw water on all your Dreams and Plans. Instead look for the Firelighters, those who ignite your spirit with encouragement and celebrate your vision with sincere joy.
I guess the recipe for success is a heap of Persistence mixed with an equal part of a Positive Attitude and sprinkled with a daily Affirmation…..
