Last week I had the opportunity to visit Concord, Mass on a historical tour. Not only was it a beautiful and quaint setting but the stories of all the successful authors and artists that lived there in the early years of America were amazing.
If I could sum up, in a few words, my observation it would be that they were VISIONARIES! They lived in their vision not their circumstances! Visionary thinking has always been the cornerstone for successful people. Henry Ford said,” Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right!”
Often I was told that ‘success is between the ears’…. It has to do with your way of thinking! Another message I received was, ‘what you think about you will bring about’ …. constant thoughts become your focus.
The early settlers and successful people of all times have a deep sense of Faith, Hope and Trust. We hear these 3 words frequently spoken or written about but not often defined….I decided to checkout the definitions of each word and was impressed at how similar the meaning of each word is to the other.
Faith – Firm belief in something for which there is no proof. Synonyms: trust, belief, confidence, conviction
Trust – Firm belief in the reliability, truth or ability of someone or something. Synonyms: confidence, belief, faith, certainty, assurance, conviction, credence; reliance
Hope –the feeling that what is wanted can be had or that the events will turn out for the best. Synonyms: aspirations, desire, wish, expectation, ambition, aim, goal, plan, design
Most people would say they have faith in what they want to accomplish and trust in their goals; they trust in the process and outcome of their goals. However, do our words always match our behavior because that is where the balance of success is determined?
I read the following post a while ago and share it now to serve as an example; are we truly believing in FAITH, TRUST and HOPE or merely saying we do?
THREE STORIES…
Once all villagers decided to pray for rain. On the day of prayer all the people gathered but only one boy came with an umbrella. That’s FAITH
When a father playfully tosses a one-year old baby in the air, the baby laughs because he knows his father will catch him. That’s TRUST
Every night we go to bed, we have no assurance to wake up alive the next morning but still we set the alarm for tomorrow. That’s HOPE
Every successful person begins with 2 beliefs….
- The future can be better than the past.
- I have the power to make it so!
SMALL WORLD versus BIG WORLD…. “The small world laughed as Thomas Edison’s experiments failed thousands of times, but the big world smiled as they saw light.” …Success by Henry Ford by Henry Ford
