Have you ever experienced a time that validated what you were doing as being right even if your “right” was different from others?
This week was the very example of that…It was a week filled with blessings. Now you’re probably imagining I did nothing but amazing things all week but that’s what so strange about it…. Not everything was wonderful, as it turned out the true blessings were actually in the challenges.
Let me start at the beginning. The week started off with the pleasure of speaking at a businesswomen’s meeting. A few days after that I had the opportunity to attend a conference with over 2000 people on how to ‘redefine success’ –….to make it more of a well being experience; to Thrive! I loved hearing from people who had learned to put balance in their lives… learned self care and to focus on what was really important.
I was flying high on “the feel good” of being with so many positive and like minded people but then the news came that my sister who was in the hospital for back surgery was not doing well due to complications… day by day for the rest of the week we waited for medical updates hoping for news of improvement ……
Being the bit of a control freak that I am…. I felt helpless. What could I do? That is when the true blessings became apparent…. All I had to do was Trust God in prayer! I reached out to family and friends for support…..asking for prayer for my sister…. and to my amazement I too was blessed. The outpouring of love and concern was not only for my sister but for me as well.
Earlier that week while I was at the conference much of what was discussed was of ‘Re-defining success’. However after my week’s experiences I began to realize that I already had the formula for success. It had been taught to me early in my direct selling career …. Each of us was encouraged to live our lives by setting our priorities in the right order…. God first, Family second, and Career third.
I was told that in that order everything turned out right; out of that order nothing would work.
Yes, the blessings of the week were many but it was in the challenge that I was reminded that the priorities of God First, prompted me to trust. Family 2nd allowed me to be there ‘for family’ and to be surrounded ‘by family’ and friends who were as close as family. And then career…. Why of course that needs to stay in 3rd place but never before your faith and your family.
During the conference this past week one of the speakers shared about a time when she was fired. She went to work one day as usual but on this day she was told that it would be her last day. As she walked out of the building in shock and hurting from being fired all she could think of was how glad she was that as a young career woman she had decided to get married and have a family while also pursuing a career. On the day she was fired she thought “what if I had put my career first?’. Her true blessing was the realization that she could always replace a job and because of a decision she made early on she now had a family to go home to; a husband and 2 daughters.
My ‘aha’ this week was that the formula for success did not have to be redefined for me. I had been blessed to have been made aware of the importance of setting my priorities in the right order. God First, Family Second and Career Third. This is a true formula for success; to live a loving and balanced life with no regrets. Yes, the old is actually new….we don’t need trendy we need tried and true. Are you ready to follow a success formula that works?

Thank you for your reassuring insight Barbara! Many times I too have found the same to be true, “the old is actually new…we don’t need trendy we need tried and true.”! Mary Kay Ash was such a smart woman, we are blessed to have her foundation. And, we are truly blessed that YOU followed her principles and LIVE the priorities of God 1st, Family 2nd and Career 3rd. You’ve set an amazing example of HUGE success which proves to the world that it works! I appreciate you (and am enjoying your blogs)!
I hope your sister is recovering nicely. 🙂
