What is Success?

March 10, by Barbara Sunden

When I was growing up there was a popular TV program.  A quiz show called, the $64,000 Question.  Contestants would be asked a series of questions and with each correct answer the Value of a question would increase…  the objective was to keep correctly answering questions in pursuit of the top prize of $64,000.  Soon it became a catch phrase with everyday people saying in response to a question they might have been asked: and that is the $64,000 Question!

Today when people ask me what I think is Key to Success? To me that is the $64,000. question!!!! There are so many components to being Successful. It has to do with character, attitude, skill, discipline, personal drive and a sense of responsibility.

Let me share what I believe about Success.

  1. Success is an Inside Job….
    1. Your life is a reflection of your Mind-Set.
    2. Thoughts are Things …  What you think about you bring about. We go in the direction of our most dominant thoughts.
    3. Thoughts are Energy … they give off a vibration that is felt by others, showing up as a mood or state of mind. We are either attracting people to us or turning them off.

If we understood the power of our thoughts,

We would guard them more closely.

If we understood the awesome power of our words,

We would prefer silence to almost anything negative.

In our thoughts and words, we create our own

weaknesses and our own strengths.

Our Limitations and Joys begin in our hearts.

We can always replace negative with positive.

~ Bettie Eadie

  1. Success has to do with an Attitude of Gratitude. There is a law of gratitude. Without gratitude you cannot keep for a long time from having dissatisfied thoughts regarding things as they are. The moment you allow your mind to dwell on things with an attitude of dissatisfaction, you begin to lose ground. You fix your attention on the common, ordinary and menial and your mind attracts these things. That is why it is so important to focus your attention on the best which will create a circumstance of surrounding yourself with the best. The grateful mind is constantly focused on the best. It then takes on the character of the best and will begin to receive the best.
  1. Personal Growth is On-Going and Important.  It does not happen automatically.                     It takes a commitment to get just a little bit better each day. Personal improvement is a process. The people who reach their potential no matter what their profession, think in terms of improvement. Think of the transformation that can occur if you choose to grow and did something to grow a little each day …. you would increase your impact!

So when people ask, “How can I do more, earn more and expand my business?”,  I believe they might be looking for a magic formula or for the answer to the $64,000 question… but the truth is ….there is no magic … it is not about doing certain things but instead, it is about doing things in a certain way … with courage and belief…. with determination and expectation…. with commitment and persistence.

 WHAT IS SUCCESS? by Ralph Waldo Emerson

To Laugh often and much;

To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;

To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;

To appreciate beauty;

To find the best in others;

                            To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch                                     or a redeemed social condition;

To know one life has breathed easier because you have lived;

THIS IS TO HAVE SUCCEEDED!
